Responsibilities
florrent is seeking a hands-on Process Development Technician to support the development, optimization, and scale-up of activated carbon production processes. Working within a dynamic R&D team, the technician will be responsible for the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of pilot-scale equipment used in activated carbon production. This role plays a critical part in bridging laboratory research with commercial-scale manufacturing.
Pilot Plant Operation
- Operate, monitor, and adjust process equipment (e.g., furnaces, processing vessels, filtration units, pumps, and material handling equipment) in support of activated carbon trials.
- Prepare feedstocks and manage inputs for pilot-scale runs.
- Record operational parameters, yields, and anomalies with high attention to detail.
Process Support & Development
- Assist engineers and scientists in executing experimental protocols and process changes.
- Implement trial modifications to equipment or conditions as required.
- Collect and label process samples for analytical testing.
Maintenance & Calibration
- Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of pilot plant equipment in accordance with SOPs.
- Maintain accurate logs of inspections, repairs, and replacements.
- Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all safety, environmental, and quality control policies and procedures.
- Participate in hazard assessments and contribute to continuous improvement in EHS practices.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of pilot plant and process development areas.
Qualifications

- Associate degree or technical diploma in chemical engineering technology, mechanical systems, process operations, or a related field
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in pilot plant, chemical process, or manufacturing operations
- Extensive experience in other areas that demonstrate high mechanical aptitude and project management capability will be considered as an alternative to an associate degree and/or technical diploma
- Basic understanding of chemical process equipment, thermochemical processes, and material handling
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Strong record-keeping and communication skills
Preferred
- Experience with activated carbon production
- Familiarity with thermal processing, acid/base handling, and filtration systems
- Knowledge of process control systems
- Forklift or equipment operation certification
Work Environment
- Mostly on-site in a pilot plant setting involving heat, pressure, chemical handling, and mechanical systems
- Requires lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and wearing PPE
- Occasional extended hours to support experimental runs or urgent maintenance
